Hi, I’m Sarah Wagner.

I’m an artist, builder, mom, auntie and neighbor.

I’ve been a foreman on construction crews, built scientifically accurate fake plants, installed countless bathrooms, worked at a milliner at a big city opera company, cooked christmas dinner for my family on a wood stove with a crockpot and waffle iron, and figured out how to build a gorgeous, rich life with my family, often wearing a tool belt and knee pads.

I’m used to being the only woman on a job site and have figured out ways to navigate with humor, grace and expletives

I started doing construction in 1995 and it has been a reliable way to support myself as an artist who makes work that is amazing but not easily saleable. Working both by myself and with my husband Jon we renovated half a city block (two houses and 3 warehouses), built a small house from scratch (cutting 80 steps by hand and carrying the materials on our backs) and much more. If I had to choose my favorite of all construction skills I’d choose doing old school wet plaster repairs (no sanding, blows on nails). I have been a studio potter, taught weaving at one of the best art colleges in the country, and make clothes. I have a huge skill set and love to share my knowledge.

Jon and I live in Chattanooga,TN with our son, my Mom, Queso (the dog) and Miss Fluffy (the cat).

I work with women, queer and trans folx of all races around the county who build impossible, incredible things.

I love working to build dreams, to build worlds, and to use and re-use materials in respectful ways, so that they last. I love a challenge, am available for local projects, and can travel.

I like to meet with people for a half an hour consultation to see if we will work together well and if my skills and experience will be of service.

Let’s make a plan and work together to figure out your next steps!

What is your dream? Let’s meet while you rebuild that deck and need to check in with me weekly or if you want to make a fantastical sculpture where we meet once.

You bring the dream, I bring the know how.

I follow the pricing guidelines I learned from my dear friend Ira X and work on a sliding scale.
